teeny cake was started in 2009 with baker and owner Michelle Mahoney’s endless search for the perfect vanilla cupcake. She continues to chase flavor combinations that elevate the cupcake to a unique dessert and reconstructs comforting childhood sweets into modern classics using the finest ingredients available. teeny cake has a loyal fan following with numerous 5-star Yelp reviews and has been named to “Best of” lists, including Red Tricycle’s 2013 Winner in the category of Best Cupcake, Bakery & Sweet Shop, CBS Local's Best Cupcakes in San Francisco, and Finalist in the Guardian’s Best of Bay competition.
Our Philosophy
We love embracing our inner foodie and fat kid. Waking up at 4am each day to provide you with freshly-baked goodies is easy when you love what you do, and seeing the delight and surprise on our customers' faces keeps us going.
Quality ingredients equals a quality product, and we use organic and local ingredients when possible, though sometimes, we do pay homage to our Southern roots, and aren't afraid of a little (make that alot!) butter, a candy bar, or even some bacon. Playing with flavors and making you happy are top priorities for us, and we hope that you enjoy the ride through our culinary cupcake journey.
For your events, large and small, we are so happy to be a part of your special moments, memories and celebrations.
Thanks so much for your support!

About the Baker and Owner
It all started with cakes. Lots and lots of cakes. Growing up, I remember that my mom used to bake cakes for every occasion. The first bite for me was always the best, and I always had big plans for my fork to take the right amount of icing and cake (it was always more icing than cake!). As I grew up, my love of cakes never faded, but I donned a lab coat and went off to college and studied chemistry….a far cry from anything food related, but who knew that the clearly-defined chemistry experiments would help me from losing my mind in the regiments of baking.
Fast forward to August of 2007, San Francisco: In my free time, I loved seeking out the great food offerings of the Bay Area, experiencing memorable flavors and the freshly prepared artistry from amazing chefs. I also visited NYC that month, and for the first time, set foot in a cupcakery. Returning from that trip, I scoured my own city to find a place to satisfy my cravings of the perfect cupcake, but nothing could compare to the cakes from my childhood. I decided to create my version of the perfect vanilla cupcake, and with each batch I had friends, and friends of friends, asking me for the leftovers, and offering to pay me for my experiments! I finally made the leap, quit my full time job in July 2009, and my passion for baking continues to grow more each day with each new creation and happy customer. We continue to grow, and my husband Kevin and wonderful mother-in-law Sheila also pitch in with enthusiasm. You'll find them happily delivering cupcakes to you, or cheerleading teeny cake happiness at a farmers market.
I am happy to pass my love of cakes, in teeny form, along to you. I hope that you enjoy them as much as we do, and thank you for allowing teeny cake to be a part of your food memories!
